Text Cleaner
Remove extra spaces, blank lines and duplicates. Free browser-based tool with no signup or uploads.
Clean up a messy paste
Duplicate matching is case-sensitive. Your original stays in the left box.
Copied text often comes with blank lines, repeated entries and irregular spacing. Text Cleaner turns that paste into a more useful list or block of text while keeping the original visible. Choose only the transformations that fit your task, then copy the result or download a plain text file.
The tool works inside your browser and does not submit your text to a server. It accepts up to 500,000 characters. For very large documents, work in sections so you can inspect the changes and keep the page responsive.
How to use the Text Cleaner
Paste the original
Put your notes, copied text or list in the original box. The result appears separately, so changing the cleanup options never overwrites the source you pasted.
Select the cleanup options
Trim line edges, collapse repeated horizontal spaces, remove blank lines, remove duplicate lines, or sort the remaining lines. Each option has a separate checkbox.
Inspect the result
Check names, punctuation, indentation and meaningful blank lines. The character counts help show that something changed but do not prove that the new text is correct for your purpose.
Copy or download
Copy the cleaned text to another application or download it as a UTF-8 text file. Use Clear to remove the current source from the tool when you finish.
What each cleanup option does
Trim each line removes whitespace from the beginning and end of every line. It is helpful for pasted lists with stray padding. It can also remove intentional indentation from source code or outlines, so switch it off when those spaces carry meaning.
Collapse extra spaces replaces runs of ordinary spaces and tabs inside a line with one space. It does not join separate lines. Use this for copied prose or item names; avoid it for tab-separated data, aligned tables or content where columns depend on spacing.
Remove blank lines removes lines containing no visible text. Remove duplicate lines keeps the first occurrence of each exact line after the earlier cleanup steps. Sort lines arranges the remaining entries using the browser locale comparison, so accented letters and punctuation may sort differently across devices.
The order of operations matters
The tool first normalizes line endings, then trims line edges if selected, collapses spaces if selected, removes blank lines, removes duplicates and finally sorts. That order lets two lines with different accidental padding become the same line before duplicate detection.
For example, a line containing two spaces followed by Apples and another containing Apples can be merged when trimming and duplicate removal are both enabled. If trimming is disabled, those lines remain distinct. The preview is the final result after all selected operations, rather than a separate preview for each step.
Case-sensitive duplicates and Unicode
Duplicate removal is case-sensitive. Apples and apples remain two different entries. This avoids silently merging identifiers or names that intentionally use different capitalization. Use the separate case converter first if you want to normalize case before removing duplicates.
Tamil and other Unicode text is kept as text rather than transliterated. The character counter uses JavaScript string length, so some emoji and combined characters count as more than one unit. The count is useful for comparing input and output, but it is not a linguistic count of letters or a platform-specific social media limit.
Good tasks for this tool
For CSV files with quoted fields, use the CSV to JSON tool rather than treating each displayed line as an independent record. A quoted CSV cell can contain a real newline, and removing that line could change the data. Likewise, use a formatter designed for the language when editing code.
- Clean repeated product names copied from several pages.
- Remove empty lines from a short list of labels.
- Normalize spacing in notes copied from a PDF.
- Sort a small list alphabetically before sharing it.
Keep a source copy when formatting matters
Plain text carries no bold formatting, tables, images or document styles. The downloaded file contains the visible characters and newlines only. If you need the original document layout, keep the source document and paste the cleaned content back deliberately.
The original box remains unchanged while you toggle options, but closing or refreshing the page discards the current text. Download a copy before leaving if you need it later. The tool has no account, history service or cross-device synchronization.
Frequently asked questions
Does this rewrite my sentences?
No. It applies the checked spacing and line operations only. It does not paraphrase, correct grammar, translate, or send text to an AI service.
Can I undo cleanup?
Your input remains in the original box while the page is open. Change the selected options to regenerate the result, or copy your original text before clearing the page.
Why did sorting change the order of my notes?
Sorting treats every line as a separate item. Leave it off for paragraphs, ordered instructions or documents whose original sequence matters.
