One PDF file · processed privately on your device
Splitting a PDF means pulling out the pages you actually need — one signed page from a twenty-page contract, a single chapter from a manual, or every page as its own file. This tool does both: extract a page range, or explode a document into separate single-page PDFs delivered as a ZIP.
Everything runs in your browser. Because the work happens in your browser, this tool is safe for documents you would never upload to a random website — contracts, payslips, medical records, bank statements, passport scans. Nothing is transmitted, so there is no server copy to be retained, indexed or breached.
How to use the Split PDF
Add your PDF
Drag the file in or click to browse. The page count is detected immediately.
Choose a split mode
Extract a specific page range, or split every page into its own separate file.
Enter the page range
For range mode, give the first and last page you want. Page numbers refer to the PDF’s own numbering, starting at 1.
Split and download
A range downloads as a single PDF. Splitting every page produces a ZIP containing one file per page.
Two ways to split
| Mode | What you get | Best for |
|---|---|---|
| Extract a range | One PDF containing pages A to B | Sending one chapter or section to someone |
| Split every page | A ZIP with one PDF per page | Filing individual receipts, invoices or certificates |
Why splitting instead of sending the whole file
- Share only what is relevant. Sending a landlord one page of a bank statement is better practice than sending twelve months of transactions.
- Stay under attachment limits. Most email providers cap attachments at 20–25 MB.
- Separate documents that were scanned together. A single scan pass often contains several unrelated documents that belong in different folders.
- Isolate pages for signature so the signer receives exactly the page that needs signing.
- Reduce reader load time — a large scanned PDF can take a long time to open on a phone.
A caution about redaction
Splitting removes pages, but it does not remove sensitive text from the pages you keep. This distinction has ended careers.
Drawing a black box over text in most PDF editors adds a graphic *on top* of the text — the text is still in the file and can be recovered by copying it out or opening the file in a text editor. Genuine redaction requires a tool that deletes the underlying content, or, as a crude but reliable fallback, converting the page to an image with PDF to images, editing the image, and converting back.
Also remember metadata. Author names, editing software and revision timestamps travel inside the file and survive a split unchanged.
Working with page numbers
Split by the PDF’s physical page numbers, which always start at 1 with the first sheet. These often differ from the numbers printed on the page — a document with a cover and roman-numeral front matter may show "page 1" on physical page 7.
Open the file first and note the position indicator in your PDF reader, not the printed number, before entering a range.
Frequently asked questions
Are my files uploaded anywhere?
No. Splitting happens entirely in your browser and the document never leaves your device — safe for contracts, medical records and financial statements.
Can I extract a single page?
Yes. Set the start and end of the range to the same page number.
How do I split every page into its own file?
Choose the split-every-page mode. You will get a ZIP archive containing one PDF per page, named by page number.
Does splitting reduce quality?
No. Pages are copied without re-rendering, so text remains selectable and images keep their original resolution.
Can I split a password-protected PDF?
Not while it is encrypted. Remove the password in a PDF reader first, with the owner’s permission, then split the unprotected copy.
Which page numbers should I use?
Physical page numbers, counting the first sheet as 1. These may differ from the numbers printed on the page if the document has front matter.
Does splitting remove sensitive information?
Only from the pages you discard. Anything on the pages you keep — including text hidden behind black boxes and document metadata — remains in the file. Use a proper redaction tool for that.
Is there a page limit?
No artificial limit. Very large documents simply take longer, since your own device does the work.
100% private. Files are processed on your device and never uploaded.
Instant results. No upload queue. Processing time depends on your device.
Free forever. No signup, no watermark, no paid tier.
Works everywhere. Use a modern browser on your phone or computer.
